We understand that this proposal is at an early stage, but then so is the proposal for Phase 2 of Stockham Park Farm.
This is a proposal for a new Garden City of 30,000 homes between Wantage and Abingdon within the area of the former Upper Thames Reservoir promotion site. This is a rough map of where we think it will be. Apparently Thames Water is no longer seeking to develop the Reservoir and this is the alternative.
The entire area
is outside the greenbelt, outside the protected landscape of the AONB, and there
are no major conservation issues and no sensitive archaeology.
Oxford Garden City solves the future housing, employment and
infrastructure problems of Oxford, South Oxfordshire District Council, The Vale of White Horse and
Oxfordshire in general for the next 30 years. This site can accommodate over 30,000 houses and hundreds of hectares of employment land.
The scale should provide the funding for improvements to the A34 and the additional Thames bridge as well as scope for a LRT link to the heart of Oxford. It will create a strong need for a railway station at Grove. Of course it will reduce our nice rural environment significantly so there will be a need to ensure a green belt around it to stop it subsuming Wantage and Grove, East and West Hanney and Abingdon into the town.
